The Usmanu Danfodiyo University Alumni Association commenced activities as individual state associations with the Ibadan chapter being the best organized and most active. Naturally, the Ibadan chapter rallied the few state associations to form a National Usmanu Danfodiyo University Alumni Association with the headquarters at Ibadan and Adamu Ahmad as President. The activities of the Alumni remained low-key until the year 2002 when the University Management took more interest and instituted a National Executive Council under the leadership of Malam Muhammad Kakale Jabo and relocated the headquarter from Ibadan to Usmanu Danfodiyo University with an Alumni Relation Officer coordinating its activities. The Jabo led National Executive council worked tirelessly to galvanize interest in many states and rally them around the National Exco.
Their efforts culminated in the first National convention which was successfully held in the 2006 with Alhaji Datti Jibril emerging as the National President. The Datti led National Executive Council got the Association registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC). So far, the National Association has had five National Presidents, M. K. Jabo (2002-2006), Alhaji Datti Jibril (2006-2009), Dr Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna (2009-2011), Alhaji Nasiru Saidu (2011-2016) and Prof. Riskuwa Shehu Arabu (current president, 2016-date). Over these periods, 10 states (including the FCT) chapters have been inaugurated viz: Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, Kano, Katsina, Jigawa, Niger, Lagos and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

Mision
In view of the above, the Alumni Association needs to strategize to reposition itself as an interdependent partner in transit to an independent status. This, I understand, is the thinking of the current National Executive Council under the able leadership of Professor R.A. Shehu, the immediate past Vice Chancellor of this great University. I therefore wish to make the following modest recommendations to both the University management and National Executive Council of our great Alumni.
